The Cliffs of Cape Split - a view from the Beach HouseIt is with mixed emotions that I write this review of the Beach House, for I’ve found a real treasure and my immediate reaction is to tell no one, and keep it for myself. However keeping a secret is not one of my strong points, so allow me to paint a picture for you with a few words. The Beach House is not just a beach house, it’s a fabulous, full-size, two story, modern home on a peaceful and secluded peninsula overlooking a mysterious ocean bay.

driftwood on the beachLarge dark green evergreen trees surround the house, yet there is an amazing view of the unspoiled landscape and the bay in almost every direction from its’ perch atop a bluff. This includes a clear view of the distant cliffs of Cape Spilt across the Bay of Fundy. And the gently rolling hills of nearby Fox River and Port Greville, covered with a crimson carpet of blueberry fields. Lightly pounding surf and fresh salt air call you to the irresistible beach below. The rocky beach is constantly changing with the rise and fall of the legendary tides in the Bay of Fundy. Each receding tide reveals hidden riches and brings new treasures to the shore each day. An enchanted driftwood forest provides hours of interesting and peaceful beach combing and is sure to bring out the child in you.

The Beach HouseThe house is stocked with every modern convenience that you might need for your stay. At the same time the owner, Liz Yorke, has added so many personal touches that you feel very much at home the minute you walk in the door. Our largest dilemma we faced in our stay was trying to decide which of the many rooms to spend time in. The cozy sunroom is a constant draw throughout the day as the sun streams in through every window. It’s a great place to curl up with one of the hundreds of book available and gaze out to sea between chapters. A large combination kitchen-living room, complete with fireplace is a wonderful place to have a meal, play a game of cards, or just sit and chat. The fully stocked dining room is a perfect gathering place for everyone in your party. Upstairs, a sitting room boasts a wood stove, more great views, a vaulted ceiling and a cozy balcony. A TV and VCR are also available in this room if you desire, although they seem out of place in this idyllic setting.

My friend Kevin; feeling inspiredThe Beach house is a peaceful and tranquil home with modern amenities, and a restful destination that I know I want to return to, again and again.
